The POPs regulations put carpets in the same camp as mattresses: they can't be mixed into general waste at the processing end, so they're pulled aside at our Leeds transfer station and handled as their own stream. Declare the amount when you book — a couple of rooms is one conversation, a whole house of flooring might mean the next skip size up, and it's cheaper to know that before the lorry arrives.

Household waste recycling centre
Recycling centres around Leeds and Wakefield take carpet and underlay from residents, usually free. Metre-wide strips are the trick again — liftable one-handed, and they feed into the container without a wrestling match. Expect to need a decent-sized boot and possibly more than one run.
Council bulky-waste collection
Leeds, Wakefield and Kirklees councils will collect rolled carpet as a bulky item for a per-item fee — worth it when there's no vehicle and no skip on the job. Roll it, tie it, and check your council's rules when booking, as some count each roll as a separate item.
Reuse or donate
Clean, dry carpet in genuinely good nick has takers: local reuse groups, allotment holders after paths and weed suppression, and occasionally flooring fitters wanting offcuts. It costs nothing to offer it before paying to bin it — just be honest about the state it's in.
