Local knowledge

Skip hire that knows Pontefract.

Pontefract has more history per square yard than anywhere else we deliver. The castle above the town withstood siege after siege in the Civil War and is where Richard II died — Shakespeare knew the place as Pomfret and gave its castle a grim part. The liquorice trade named the Pontefract cake and sweets are made in town to this day, the racecourse runs one of the longest flat circuits in the country, and a town of thirty-odd thousand somehow keeps three railway stations: Monkhill, Baghill and Tanshelf. A skip lorry is a modest addition to all that, but ours are there every week.

We'll be straight about the geography: WF8 is the far south-east corner of our patch and the longest regular run we do from the Leeds yard, and the pricing reflects the miles. What doesn't change is the deal — the figure quoted includes VAT, delivery, collection and seven days' hire, and next-day delivery still holds when you book before 3pm. The terraces around Monkhill and Tanshelf mostly need an on-road skip under a Wakefield Council permit, which we sort; Chequerfield and the newer estates have the drives to skip the paperwork altogether.

Beyond the town the run takes in Carleton's bigger semis, Darrington's plots by the A1, and the quiet villages down the A639 — East Hardwick and Thorpe Audlin. The jobs skew larger out here: extensions, full garden re-dos, barn and garage clear-outs, the occasional whole-house clearance. Whatever we collect travels back to Garnet Road to be sorted, and over 90% of it is diverted from landfill — the same standard at the far end of the patch as five minutes from the yard.

Coverage

Where we deliver in Pontefract.

Six of the areas our drivers see most. If your street isn't named here, the postcode almost certainly is — check it on the booking page in seconds.

Town centre & the Buttercross

Shop refits and flat clearances around the Market Place and Ropergate. Tight streets — most skips here go on-road under a Wakefield Council permit we arrange.

Monkhill & Tanshelf

Victorian terraces between two of the town's three stations. Classic 4-yard territory, with the permit sorted wherever the skip has to sit on the street.

Chequerfield

The big post-war estate south of the centre. Gardens and drives make for easy drops; a full house clearance usually takes the 8-yarder.

Carleton

Bigger semis and village streets on the south side. Extensions and full garden re-dos — heavy-waste 8-yarders are the standard order.

Darrington

Just off the A1, with proper drives and big gardens. Barn, garage and estate clear-outs, and easy access for the lorry.

East Hardwick & Thorpe Audlin

The quiet villages down the A639 — on the same WF8 run and pricing. Enter your postcode when booking and the right figure comes back.

Why Onyx

Why Pontefract books Onyx.

  1. The long run, done properly

Pontefract is the furthest town we publish a page for, and it's still on the weekly rota — which means delivery windows that hold and collections that happen when we said they would.

  2. Every mile already in the figure

From £190 for a 2-yarder across WF8, including VAT, delivery, collection and seven days' hire. No fuel surcharge, no distance top-up, no surprise when the invoice lands.

  3. Wakefield Council permits, sorted

On-street skips around Monkhill, Tanshelf and the town centre need a Wakefield Council permit — £40, an initial two-week period, lights and cones supplied. We do the paperwork.

  4. Over 90% diverted from landfill

Everything we collect in Pontefract is separated at our own transfer station in Leeds — wood, metal, hardcore, soil and residual — and over 90% is kept out of landfill.

Skip hire in Pontefract starts from £190 for a 2-yard mini skip, £235 for a 4-yard midi, £365 for an 8-yard builder's skip and £685 for a 16-yard maxi. All prices include VAT, delivery, collection and seven days' hire. Enter your WF8 postcode on the booking page for your street's exact figure.

Distance, plainly. WF8 is the furthest district we serve from our Leeds transfer station, and every price covers the real cost of delivery, collection and disposal. The figure is still all-in — VAT, both journeys and seven days' hire included, with nothing added afterwards — and next-day delivery holds just the same when you book before 3pm.

Only if the skip goes on a public road or pavement — usual on the terraced streets around Monkhill, Tanshelf and the centre. We apply to Wakefield Council for you; the permit costs £40 and covers an initial two-week period. On your own drive or land, no permit is needed at all.

Yes — Carleton, Darrington, East Hardwick and Thorpe Audlin are all on the same WF8 run as the town itself, from £190 all-in. Book before 3pm for next-day delivery anywhere in the district; for anything unusual — farm clearances, tight lanes — ring the office and we'll plan it properly.
